Texas State University also has an abundance of resources to help students practice sustainability in their day-to-day lives. Some of the more common ones include recycling bins, bike lanes and the Bobcat Shuttle. The Bobcat Shuttle provides students with a way around campus and to apartments easily. Outside of the bus, TXST also has a bike shop and easily-accessible sidewalks to promote non-car transportation.
Texas State also has an Office of Sustainability, which focuses on providing Bobcats with resources and information on how to live sustainably. They provide internships and different volunteer opportunities for students. They also have the Environmental Service Committee, which funds sustainability practices on campus. They are responsible for implementing the Environmental Service Fee, which was recently raised to $3 a semester. This money goes towards sustainability efforts on campus.
Texas State University also offers a minor in Sustainability Studies. It focuses on understanding our role as humans in the ecosystem and how to think more sustainabily. Although this minor is perfect for those looking to work in sustainablity, it is also helpful for every major. We are moving towards a more eco-concious world, and having that knowledge under your belt is invaluable in any workplace.
