San Marcos has an abundance of natural resources. One of the first that might come to mind would be the San Marcos River, but there are so many more. Others include our several natural areas such as Blanco Shoals and the Spring Lake Natural Area. These are areas that are primarily undisturbed by humans and have native wildlife and plants. San Marcos is also home to several native species including the San Marcos salamander and the San Marcos Gambusia, which are both native to the river.
These natural resources are important to the San Marcos ecosystem and to our daily lives. Without the preservation of these resources, there could be tremendous downfalls. The San Marcos river is a huge part of the San Marcos ecosystem. It is home to dozens of species of animals and plants alike. There are several teams and organizations dedicated to the preservation of our precious San Marcos River. Without it, San Marcos wouldn't be quite what it is today.

San Marcos has a multitude of resources that make living sustainably even easier. Some include the San Marcos Station, which serves not only as the bus station but also as the Amtrak station here in San Marcos. Using public transportation is an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint. (and can be fun!) Green Guy Recycling is another useful resource here in San Marcos. They accept and recycle materials that you might not be able to recycle anywhere else.
